On the evening of March 15, 2023, Chen Hongbing, professor and doctoral supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, was invited to give a lecture on Criminal law is not an intellectual game, but a heavy social responsibility behind it (Southeast University Humanities and Science Literacy Lecture Series) at the auditorium of Southeast University Sipailou Campus. Nearly 500 graduate students (including those who came from Jiulong Lake Campus to attend the lecture at Sipailou Campus) listened to this lecture.
In this lecture, Prof. Chen Hongbing used specific typical and hot cases as a guide and asked questions in successive layers, which aroused students' deep thinking and warm response. On the one hand, Prof. Chen Hongbing started from common sense and made use of the wrong verdict in practice to guide the students to think deeply about the essence of criminal law, pointing out and repeatedly emphasizing that the essence of crime lies in the infringement of legal interests, and there is no crime without the infringement of legal interests. On the other hand, Prof. Chen Hongbing, in a witty and humorous tone, used the question of Who should be saved first when a mother and her girlfriend, whom she has known online for three days, fall into the river at the same time? The question of Who should be saved first? transmits the concept of conflict of obligation and a common sense solution.
