On the morning of April 1, 2023, Chen Hongbing, professor and doctoral supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, was invited to Wuhan, Hubei Province, to attend the New Era - Criminal Skills Enhancement Seminar for Lawyers and gave a lecture on Strategies for Defending Economic, Property and Official Crimes. The lecture was given by Hubei Zhonghexin. The seminar was hosted by Hubei Zhonghexin Law Firm, and organized by Lei Gang, a partner of Hubei Zhonghexin Law Firm, an expert member of the third-party mechanism for corporate compliance in Hubei Province, and one of the defenders of the Top Ten Innocence Cases in China in 2018, and a senior criminal defense lawyer. Nearly 300 lawyers, prosecutors, judges, corporate legal affairs and students from Shanghai, Hebei, Guangdong, Sichuan, Shanxi, Shandong, Anhui, Henan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Hunan, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Beijing, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Chongqing, Yunnan and Hubei were present to listen to this seminar. The seminar was hosted by Mr. Lei Gang.
At the beginning of the seminar, Mr. Lei Gang delivered a warm opening speech, expressing his heartfelt thanks and warm welcome to the lecturers and invited guests. Mr. Lei then explained the nature and objectives of the seminar and expressed his hope that all the legal colleagues present would gain something from the seminar.
After that, the lecture officially started.
Around the topic of this lecture, Prof. Chen Hongbing selected 10 key crimes in economic, property and office crimes, including production and sale of counterfeit products, fraudulent loan, illegal public deposit, credit card fraud, false VAT invoicing, organizing and leading pyramid selling activities, fraud, embezzlement, embezzlement and bribery. In the three-and-a-half-hour lecture, Prof. Chen Hongbing analyzed the text of the law one by one, and gave a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the difficult issues in the understanding and application of each crime, such as the protection of legal interests, the determination of the act of commission, the form of crime, the number of crimes, joint crimes, error of knowledge, the statute of limitations, the boundary between this crime and the other crime, etc. He also reflected on the relevant judicial interpretations and pointed out the existence of misunderstandings in them. The lecture provided a clearer and more accurate identification of each crime in practice and a more powerful defense strategy.
Professor Chen Hongbing's humorous teaching style and passionate lecture fully stimulated the enthusiasm of the participants. During the course of the lecture, the participants actively participated in the discussion and interaction. In between the lectures, the students lined up to ask Prof. Chen Hongbing to sign his new book Criminal Law Division Class.
Professor Chen Hongbing, through theory and practice, presented many unique ideas, which gave the participants a deeper understanding of economic, property and office crimes. After the lecture, the audience expressed that they benefited a lot. The lecture was a complete success!
