On May 6, 2023, the new book launch of the Commentary on Chinese Criminal Law and the seminar on the compilation of the legal commentary were held in Suzhou, China, where nearly 100 experts and scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Normal University, Soochow University, and Shanghai High People's Court, the Nearly one hundred experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences University, Beijing Normal University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Normal University, Suzhou University, and Shanghai High People's Court, Beijing University Press, etc. attended the conference and discussed topics such as codification and improvement of Chinese criminal law commentaries. Associate Professor Liu Jianli and Associate Professor Ji Yang were invited to attend the conference.
The Chinese Criminal Law Commentary is the first complete commentary on criminal law in China so far, and the writing of the Chinese Criminal Law Commentary is the requirement and reflection of the development of Chinese criminal law hermeneutics to a new stage, as well as a manifestation of the continuous progress of China's criminal law doctrinal theory and judicial practice. Co-edited by Professor Feng Jun of Renmin University of China, Professor Liang Genlin of Peking University, and Professor Li Hong of Tsinghua University, the Commentary on Chinese Criminal Law was first initiated in 2015 and published in March 2023 at Peking University after a long gestation period. With the participation of nearly seventy scholars and a total word count of more than six million, the Commentary on Chinese Criminal Law is a landmark academic achievement in Chinese criminal law with fine content and excellent binding.
Led by Prof. Liu Yanhong, our criminal law team of Prof. Ouyang Benqi, Prof. Li Chuan, Associate Prof. Qian Xiaoping, Associate Prof. Liang Yunbao, Associate Prof. Liu Jianli, Associate Prof. Yang Zhiqiong, Associate Prof. Ji Yang, and Associate Prof. Chu Chencheng of Anhui University, Associate Prof. Wang Jun of Soochow University, Assistant Prof. Wei Chao of Soochow University, Associate Prof. Xia Wei of China University of Political Science and Law, and Prosecutor Du Xuan of Nanjing People's Procuratorate participated in writing the Chinese Criminal Law The chapter of Corruption and Bribery in the Commentary. The authors of the team presented their views on the characteristics of writing the Commentary on Chinese Criminal Law, their feelings about writing it, and the relationship between legal commentary and codification.
