At 13:30 on April 2, The second Round of maritime diplomatic Knowledge into universities lecture series activities - Southeast University Special Event was held in the conference room of Southeast University Law School. Professor Gao Zhiguo, former Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, President of the China Society of Maritime Law and member of the Expert Committee of the International Commercial Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court, delivered a keynote lecture on The Development and Evolution of the Modern system of the Law of the Sea. Ms. Zhao Yishu, International Cooperation Department of Southeast University, Associate Professor Lu Lu, Law School of Southeast University, and more than 30 students attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Professor Ye Quan, Deputy Director of the Talent Office of Southeast University and Associate Professor of Law School.
Professor Gao Zhiguo introduced the classical discourse on oceans by ancient Chinese historical and cultural masters. By introducing the basic situation of the world's oceans and the historical context of the evolution of the international law of the sea, he slowly opened a vast picture of the international law of the sea system to you. Subsequently, Professor Gao gave a systematic account of China's maritime law practice and the threats the country faces in safeguarding its maritime rights and interests and security, and focused on analyzing ten hot issues worthy of attention and exploration by scholars of the law of the sea. Professor Gao Zhiguo pointed out that at present, the main threats facing China and the direction of expanding national interests come from the sea, but there are still many obstacles on the road of safeguarding maritime rights and interests and building a maritime power. Caring about the ocean and understanding the ocean is the prerequisite basis for supporting the strategy of maritime power, and it is also an inevitable requirement for contemporary young students. We hope that students can learn the law of the sea well and put it into practice, so as to contribute to the realization of the second centenary goal of the rule of law.
Finally, Teacher Ye Quan commented on the lecture. He pointed out that Professor Gao vividly narrated the evolution of the international law of the sea and the practice of the law of the sea in China with his magnificent vision, profound knowledge and unique insights. The content of the lecture is both professional and popular, theoretical and practical, allowing everyone to have a more three-dimensional and profound understanding of the modern Marine legal system, and greatly enhancing everyone's awareness of the ocean. I hope that through this lecture, more students can pay attention to and understand the international law under the background of 100-year changes, especially the law of the sea, and have a higher sense of responsibility and mission. Work hard and forge ahead, and strive to become a high-quality foreign-related legal talent.
Jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the China Ocean Development Foundation, the series of activities aimed at popularizing maritime legal knowledge, enhancing college students' maritime awareness and patriotic consciousness, expanding students' international vision, and helping China expand its maritime diplomatic talent pool and build a maritime power strategy. Southeast University is one of the ten universities in China to host the lecture, which is jointly hosted by the International Cooperation Office of Southeast University and the School of Law.
